Anderson Man Fatally Shot Outside Bar, Woman Injured

ANDERSON, Ind. — The Anderson community is mourning the tragic loss of Montario D. Peoples, 34, who was fatally shot early Easter Sunday morning outside Bourbon Street Sports Bar & Grill. According to Madison County Coroner Adam Matson, Peoples died from multiple gunshot wounds.

Police were called to the 800 block of East 53rd Street at approximately 2:43 a.m. following reports of a shooting involving a vehicle. Upon arrival, officers found Peoples in the driver’s seat suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Despite efforts to save him, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

A woman who was also inside the vehicle sustained a gunshot wound and was transported to a local hospital. Authorities report that her injuries are non-life-threatening, and other occupants of the vehicle were unharmed. Preliminary findings indicate that several rounds were fired into the vehicle from outside.

Detectives with the Anderson Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division are actively pursuing leads. Authorities are urging anyone with information about the incident to come forward, either directly to law enforcement or anonymously through Crime Stoppers.

Friends, family, and the Anderson community are now grappling with the sudden and heartbreaking loss of Montario Peoples, whose life was tragically cut short. The investigation remains ongoing, and further details will be released as they become available.
