PORTSMOUTH, Va. — The Portsmouth community is grieving the sudden and tragic loss of Johnta Raeshawn Fields, 39, who was fatally shot early Sunday morning on Chestnut Street.
According to the Portsmouth Police Department, officers were dispatched at approximately 3:25 a.m. on April 5 to the 2400 block of Chestnut Street following reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, authorities found Fields suffering from a gunshot wound. He was immediately transported to a nearby hospital for treatment, but tragically, he later succumbed to his injuries.
