Young Man Killed, Two Injured in Serious Vehicle Crash

HARTFORD CITY, Ind. — The Hartford City community is mourning the tragic and heartbreaking loss of Gavyn Orlando, 19, who was killed Sunday afternoon in a devastating crash in Wells County.

According to authorities, emergency crews responded on April 5, 2026, at approximately 2:47 p.m. to a crash on County Road 200 West near County Road 1200 South. Investigators said Hunter Cooper, 21, of Hartford City, was driving a white 2018 BMW northbound at a high rate of speed on Blackford County Road 600 East when he crossed into Wells County. Officials stated that Cooper lost control of the vehicle, causing it to cross the center line and strike a utility pole on the passenger side, snapping the pole in half. The vehicle then rolled into a nearby field.

Cooper was injured and transported to the hospital for treatment. Another passenger, Anthony Dalley, 20, of Montpelier, was ejected from the vehicle and also taken to the hospital with injuries.

Gavyn Orlando, 19, of Hartford City, was pronounced deceased at the scene.

His sudden passing has left family and friends devastated, as Hartford City mourns the loss of a young life taken far too soon. Loved ones are remembering Gavyn for the joy he brought to those around him and the impact he made in his community. His death has created a painful void, and many are struggling to process the tragedy of losing someone so young.

The crash remains under active investigation by local and state authorities.

Agencies assisting at the scene included the Wells County Sheriff’s Office, Wells County EMS, Liberty Center Fire/Rescue, Chester Fire, Indiana State Police, the Wells County Coroner, and the Bluffton 911 Center.
