Venice Man Killed in Monday Altercation; Suspect Arrested

VENICE, Fla. — The Venice community is mourning the heartbreaking loss of 67-year-old Jeffrey Hubbard, who was tragically killed Monday morning in the 200 block of South Grove Street. Authorities say Hubbard, who was well-known locally for his work at the site where the incident occurred, was discovered unresponsive following a violent altercation with 42-year-old Richard Barker, an employee at the same location.

Despite the rapid response and life-saving efforts of Venice Police officers and Venice Fire Rescue, Hubbard succumbed to his injuries at the scene. Officials confirmed that Barker has admitted responsibility and has been charged with second-degree murder and tampering with evidence. The official cause and manner of death will be determined by the Medical Examiner.
