In Loving Memory of Ashley Hagood, Bryant Ballew, and Bryleigh Pledger

The Hartselle community is wrapped in deep sorrow following the devastating loss of three beloved lives taken far too soon. Ashley Hagood, 33, and her two children, Bryant Ballew, 13, and Bryleigh Pledger, 7, tragically lost their lives in a heartbreaking crash over the weekend in Lawrence County. Their passing has left an unimaginable void in the hearts of their family, friends, and the entire Hartselle City Schools community.

What began as an ordinary day turned into a tragedy that has shaken an entire community to its core. The collision, which occurred at the intersection of Highway 157 and Highway 24 in Moulton, claimed not only lives but also the sense of normalcy and peace for so many who knew and loved this family. As the community mourns, prayers continue to rise for the two children who survived the crash, Bentley Pledger, 10, and Brynleigh Pledger, 7, who remain in critical condition. Their fight represents a glimmer of hope amid overwhelming grief.

Ashley Hagood will be remembered as a loving mother whose life revolved around her children. Her strength, kindness, and devotion created a home filled with warmth and care. Bryant, at just 13 years old, had a bright future ahead of him—a young soul full of promise, energy, and dreams yet to be realized. Bryleigh, only 7, brought light and joy wherever she went, her innocence and laughter leaving lasting impressions on everyone she encountered. Together, they formed a bond of love that will never be broken, even in their absence.

In response to this profound loss, Hartselle City Schools has come together in unity, compassion, and faith. A community prayer service is being held on Monday at 3:30 p.m. at the Hartselle High School Auditorium—a sacred gathering where hearts can grieve, remember, and find strength together. Led by local ministers, the service will provide a space for reflection, comfort, and collective support during this incredibly difficult time.

Superintendent Dr. Holly Sutherland shared heartfelt words that echo the emotions felt throughout the district. She expressed the deep heartbreak experienced by the school community, emphasizing that this loss is not just felt by a family, but by an entire network of students, teachers, and staff who are mourning together. Her message reminds us all of the importance of unity, compassion, and care in times of tragedy.

To support those impacted, grief counselors, mental health coordinators, social workers, and additional support staff will be available within schools. Their presence ensures that no student or staff member has to carry this pain alone. The district has also encouraged parents to reach out, reinforcing the idea that healing is a shared journey—one that requires openness, communication, and collective strength.

This tragedy serves as a painful reminder of how fragile life can be. Yet, even in the darkest moments, the love shared, the memories created, and the lives touched continue to shine brightly. Ashley, Bryant, and Bryleigh may no longer walk among us, but their spirits live on—in the stories shared, in the love they gave, and in the community that now carries their memory forward.

As Hartselle gathers in prayer and remembrance, may there be comfort in togetherness, strength in unity, and peace in knowing that these beautiful souls will never be forgotten.

Forever loved. Forever remembered.
