Center Point Man Killed in Deadly Hit-and-Run on Green Springs Highway

The Center Point community is mourning the heartbreaking loss of Kevin A. Arita-Alvarado, a 20-year-old man who was tragically killed in a hit-and-run crash during the predawn hours of Sunday morning on Birmingham’s Green Springs Highway.

According to the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office, the fatal incident occurred between 2:05 a.m. and 2:13 a.m. near the intersection of Green Springs Highway and Red Mountain Terrace. Chief Deputy Coroner Bill Yates stated that Arita-Alvarado was a pedestrian in the roadway when he was struck by a vehicle.

Authorities said the driver did not stop after the collision and fled the scene, leaving Arita-Alvarado critically injured in the roadway. Emergency responders were dispatched to the area, but despite their efforts, he was pronounced dead at the scene at 2:32 a.m.

The sudden and violent nature of the crash has left loved ones devastated as they try to cope with the loss of a young life taken far too soon. Family and friends are now left searching for answers, as the person responsible has not yet been identified.

The Birmingham Police Department is actively investigating the incident and working to determine what led to the crash and who was behind the wheel. Officials are urging anyone who may have witnessed the collision or has information about the vehicle involved to come forward.
