Fatal Head-On Crash in Marion County Claims Life of 21-Year-Old Mason May, Investigation Ongoing

A tragic two-vehicle crash in Marion County has claimed the life of 21-year-old Mason May, according to Kentucky State Police, who are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the deadly collision on KY 49 (Bradfordsville Road).

On April 10, 2026, at approximately 6:26 p.m. EDT, Kentucky State Police Post 15 Troopers were requested by the Marion County Sheriff’s Office to respond to a serious injury collision involving two vehicles. The crash occurred along KY 49, a rural roadway in Marion County, and quickly escalated into a fatal incident requiring multiple emergency response agencies.

Preliminary findings from investigators indicate that Jacob Buckingham, 35, of Bradfordsville, was traveling southbound on KY 49 in a 2014 Ford F-150. Authorities say that while driving in a clearly marked no-passing zone, Buckingham attempted to overtake another southbound vehicle by entering the northbound lane.

During this maneuver, Buckingham’s vehicle encountered a 2011 Honda Civic traveling northbound on KY 49, driven by 21-year-old Mason May of Lebanon. The two vehicles collided head-on with significant force, resulting in catastrophic damage and a fatal outcome.

Emergency responders arrived at the scene and worked quickly to provide assistance, but despite their efforts, Mason May was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Marion County Coroner. His sudden and tragic death has left family members and the local community in mourning.

Jacob Buckingham sustained injuries in the crash and was transported to Spring View Hospital, where he was treated for minor injuries. Officials have not released further information regarding his current condition.

The crash prompted a coordinated response from multiple agencies, including Kentucky State Police Post 15, the Marion County Sheriff’s Office, Marion County Fire/EMS, Lebanon Fire Department, and the Marion County Coroner’s Office. Their combined efforts helped secure the scene, provide emergency care, and begin the detailed investigation process.

Authorities say the investigation remains ongoing under the direction of Detective Weston Sullivan. Investigators are continuing to examine evidence, roadway conditions, and witness statements to determine all contributing factors that led to the fatal collision.

As the investigation continues, officials are reminding drivers of the extreme dangers associated with passing in restricted zones and the devastating consequences that can result from a single moment of poor judgment.

The loss of Mason May has deeply impacted the Lebanon community, where loved ones are now left grieving a life cut short far too soon. As authorities work toward a full reconstruction of the crash, the focus remains on both accountability and honoring the memory of the young man whose life was tragically lost on KY 49.
