Gentry, 26, of Independence, who was fatally struck in a secondary crash on Interstate 55 late Saturday night. The incident occurred shortly after an initial crash on the southbound side of the interstate, resulting in a heartbreaking chain of events that claimed Austin’s life.
According to the Louisiana State Police, the original crash involved Austin Gentry and occurred around 11 p.m. While waiting for emergency personnel to arrive, Gentry exited his vehicle and attempted to cross the northbound lanes of the interstate. During this dangerous maneuver, he was struck by a 2010 Toyota Corolla traveling northbound. Tragically, Austin sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
