STOCKTON, CALIFORNIA — With heavy hearts, family, friends, and community members are mourning the tragic loss of Damon Richard James Owens, who passed away at the age of 42 following a fatal shooting in Stockton.

According to the San Joaquin County Medical Examiner’s Office, Damon was fatally shot early Tuesday morning, April 7, 2026. Stockton Police Department officers responded to reports of gunfire at approximately 5:09 a.m. behind a Michaels store located in the 7600 block of Pacific Avenue. When officers arrived at the scene, Damon was found suffering from gunshot injuries. He was rushed to a nearby hospital for emergency medical treatment, but despite life-saving efforts, he later died from his wounds.

Authorities confirmed Damon’s age as 42 after initial reports had incorrectly listed him as 32. Investigators have continued working to determine what led to the deadly shooting. As of April 7, no suspects had been identified, and the investigation remains active. By April 8, the yellow caution tape that had surrounded the area was removed, though police presence remained as officers continued monitoring the location and gathering information.

Damon’s death has been confirmed as the seventh homicide recorded in Stockton so far this year, a heartbreaking reminder of the impact gun violence continues to have on families and neighborhoods.
