BOONEVILLE, Ark. — The community of Booneville and Logan County is mourning the tragic loss of Gary Blaylock, 45, who died following an officer-involved shooting after a police pursuit on State Highway 23 Monday morning.
According to the Arkansas State Police (ASP), the incident began around 10:15 a.m. when a Booneville Police officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a pickup truck traveling through the area. Authorities say the driver did not pull over, and a pursuit ensued along the highway.
Law enforcement officials stated that the pursuit continued until officers carried out a rolling block maneuver, successfully bringing the vehicle to a stop. Investigators report that once the truck came to a halt, Blaylock exited the vehicle while allegedly armed with a firearm.
At that moment, both a Booneville police officer and an Arkansas State Police trooper discharged their service weapons, striking Blaylock. Emergency personnel responded quickly, but he was pronounced deceased at the scene.
No officers or bystanders were injured during the incident.
