In Loving Memory of Tre’Von Riggins
The loss of a young life is always a heartbreak that words can scarcely contain, and today we remember and honor 15-year-old Tre’Von Riggins—a son, a friend, a student, and a young soul whose story ended far too soon.
Tre’Von was more than the tragic circumstances that took him from this world. To those who knew him best—his family, his mentors, and his community—he was a bright light filled with promise. They describe him as a sharp young man with a quick mind and a personality that could bring laughter into any room. His humor, his energy, and his presence left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him.
Like many teenagers, Tre’Von faced challenges along the way. But what truly defined him was not his past—it was his determination to grow beyond it. He was on a path toward something better, guided by people who believed in him and who stood by his side. Surrounded by love, encouragement, and positive influences, he was actively taking steps toward a brighter future. Those closest to him saw the change, the effort, and the potential that lived within him.
On the evening of March 28, at approximately 7:15 p.m., tragedy struck in the 3900 block of Rue Rabelais. Responding officers arrived to find Tre’Von near a playground—an area meant for joy and innocence—suffering from a gunshot wound. He was rushed to the hospital in critical condition, where, despite efforts to save him, he was later pronounced dead.
The weight of this loss is immeasurable. A family mourns a child they loved deeply. Friends grieve someone who made them smile. Mentors ache for a young person they were proud to guide. A community is left asking why a life filled with so much potential was taken so senselessly.
Tre’Von’s story is not just one of loss—it is also one of hope, resilience, and the power of support. His life reminds us of the importance of compassion, mentorship, and giving young people the chance to grow beyond their mistakes. It reminds us that every child deserves the opportunity to rewrite their story and to be surrounded by those who uplift them.
As we remember Tre’Von Riggins, let us hold onto the joy he brought into the lives of others. Let us honor the effort he was making to move forward. And let us commit, as a community, to creating a world where young lives are protected, nurtured, and given the chance to flourish.
Rest in peace, Tre’Von. You were loved. You mattered. And you will never be forgotten.
