KENEDY, Texas — A 35-year-old inmate at the Connally Unit in Kenedy has died, according to a custodial death report filed by the Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ).
The inmate has been identified as Kobbie Dominick Johnson. Officials reported that Johnson was found unresponsive on the floor next to his assigned bunk. Life-saving measures were immediately administered while emergency medical services responded, but he was pronounced deceased at the scene. An autopsy has been ordered to determine the exact cause of death.
Johnson was serving a four-year sentence for possession of a controlled substance out of Bexar County. He had become eligible for parole in August 2025 but was denied in March 2026.
The TDCJ continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the custodial death.
