NORTHFIELD, N.H. — Authorities are investigating an officer-involved shooting that left 27-year-old Megan L. Whiting dead early Monday morning.
Police from the Northfield and Tilton Police Departments responded around 12:12 a.m. on April 6, 2026, to a 911 call reporting a domestic disturbance at an apartment on 20 Vine Street. The caller reported that Whiting was assaulting another resident with a fire extinguisher, damaging property, and had broken a window.
When officers arrived, they encountered Whiting armed with a knife near an injured female resident. Officers issued multiple commands for her to drop the weapon. One officer discharged their firearm, fatally striking Whiting. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
An autopsy by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner determined the cause of death as multiple gunshot wounds and ruled the manner of death a homicide. No other civilians or officers were injured during the incident.
Authorities said the identity of the officer involved is being withheld pending formal interviews. The investigation remains ongoing, and no further information will be released until those interviews are completed.
