RICHFIELD, N.Y. — A heartbreaking tragedy has left the Ilion and emergency services community in mourning after a 29-year-old firefighter/paramedic, Ashley M. Faubert, was killed in a single-vehicle crash Friday night in Otsego County.
New York State Police said the crash occurred around 9:30 p.m. on April 10, 2026, on County Highway 22 just south of Butternut Road, when Faubert’s vehicle left the roadway for reasons still under investigation and struck a tree. She was the sole occupant of the vehicle.
Despite rapid and determined life-saving efforts from nearby residents and responding EMS crews, Faubert was transported to Bassett Medical Center in Cooperstown, where she was later pronounced dead.
Authorities confirmed Faubert served as a firefighter/paramedic with the Ilion Fire Department, where she was known for her dedication to helping others and her commitment to public service.
What began as a routine night ended in devastating loss, leaving colleagues, friends, and the wider community grieving a life cut short far too soon. The crash has sent shockwaves through the region, especially among fellow first responders who now mourn one of their own.
The investigation into the cause of the crash remains ongoing.
A tragic loss for Ilion and all who knew her.
