Wilmington Man Dies After Falling from Downtown Parking Deck

WILMINGTON, N.C. — The Wilmington community is mourning the tragic loss of 74-year-old Thomas Broffman, who passed away Monday afternoon, April 6, 2026, after falling from the Nutt Street parking deck in downtown Wilmington.

Authorities say Broffman fell at approximately 1:54 p.m. Students from nearby Cape Fear Community College and emergency responders rushed to assist, but sadly, he succumbed to his injuries at the scene. The New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the incident as an apparent suicide.

Friends, neighbors, and members of the community are left heartbroken by this sudden loss. Those who knew Broffman remember him as a valued and cherished member of Wilmington whose absence leaves a profound void.
