In Loving Memory of Josiah J. Evan & Dyquan Hykeem-Jamaal

In Loving Memory of Josiah J. Evan & Dyquan Hykeem-Jamaal

With heavy hearts, we pause to honor and remember two lives tragically lost in a devastating accident in Richland County. In the early hours of Sunday morning, just before 12:30 a.m., a head-on collision along Interstate 26 near Bush River Road changed everything for the families, friends, and communities of two young men whose lives ended far too soon.

23-year-old Josiah J. Evan of Columbia and 31-year-old Dyquan Hykeem-Jamaal of Lexington were both taken in an instant—victims of a tragic moment that neither could have foreseen. According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol, the crash occurred when a Hyundai sedan, traveling east in the westbound lanes, collided with a Nissan SUV heading in the correct direction. The impact was fatal for both drivers.

Today, we remember more than the circumstances of their passing—we remember the lives they lived, the love they gave, and the legacy they leave behind.

Josiah J. Evan, just 23, stood at the threshold of his future. A young man full of promise, he carried dreams yet to be fulfilled and a life still unfolding. Those who knew him will remember his energy, his presence, and the moments—big and small—that made him who he was. His absence leaves an ache that words can hardly capture.

Dyquan Hykeem-Jamaal, 31, was a man who had already begun carving his path, building connections, and leaving his imprint on the world around him. He was more than a name in a report—he was a son, a friend, a member of his community whose life mattered deeply to those who loved him. His loss is felt not only in Lexington but far beyond.

As the Richland County Coroner’s Office, led by Coroner Nadia Rutherford, confirmed their identities, the reality of this tragedy set in for many. Two families now face unimaginable grief. Two circles of friends now hold onto memories instead of moments. Two lives, distinct and meaningful, forever intertwined by a single, heartbreaking event.

In times like these, we are reminded of how fragile life can be. A single moment can alter countless others, leaving behind questions, sorrow, and a longing for just one more day, one more conversation, one more chance to say “I love you.”

May we honor Josiah and Dyquan not only in mourning but in memory—by cherishing our loved ones more closely, by extending kindness more freely, and by holding space for those navigating loss.

To the families and loved ones of Josiah J. Evan and Dyquan Hykeem-Jamaal, we extend our deepest and most sincere condolences. May you find strength in one another, comfort in your memories, and peace in knowing that their lives, though tragically short, will never be forgotten.

Rest in peace, Josiah J. Evan.
Rest in peace, Dyquan Hykeem-Jamaal.

Gone too soon, but forever remembered.
