A tragic shooting at Shelby Farms Park in Memphis, Tennessee has left a 17-year-old dead during what authorities say was an unsanctioned “senior skip day” gathering.
The victim has been identified as Coriuan Bean, a 17-year-old student at Millington High School.
Deputies responded to reports of gunfire around 12:15 p.m., where they found Coriuan suffering from a gunshot wound. He was rushed to the hospital in critical condition but later pronounced dead.
Officials say approximately 150 to 200 students were present at the park at the time, with no adult supervision. Witnesses reported that the group was initially gathered for recreation when gunfire suddenly broke out, turning a day of celebration into chaos and fear.
No suspect has been taken into custody, and investigators are still working to determine what led to the shooting. Authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward as the investigation continues.
Coriuan’s mother, Cherice Brewer, shared an emotional message in the aftermath of her son’s death:
“For me, pray… my 17-year-old son is gone due to gun violence… I can’t even think right now.”
The community is now mourning the loss of a young life taken far too soon, as friends, family, and classmates struggle to process the tragedy and investigators continue searching for answers.
